Whether we are younger or older, we have been asked to largely shelter in our homes. We are self-distancing ourselves from others in order to slow down and prevent the spread of the COVID-19 virus. This, as we all are realizing, is a challenging task. By nature, we are social creatures in need of contact with others. Many folks are feeling very isolated and lonely because we are not able have that contact in the same way as before. On the other side of the coin, there are others who are experiencing overload as families are together way more than they have previously been used to. Overwhelmed and over stimulated, many feel in need of constructive ways to deal with this. Our “Daily 20 Questions” resources have been created to try to help you wherever you feel you are in this “new normal” environment.
If you are home with a younger family and in need of finding some structure amidst the chaos, we invite you to utilize these “Daily 20 Questions” resources for a devotional time together in which you take time for caring conversations. You might have to adjust the questions a bit to fit your context, but they are a starting point. If your family has “flown the coup,” so to speak, you and others are still in need of caring conversations. So, we invite you to make it a habit of calling or facetiming at least one friend or relative each day to have a conversation. If you have nothing else to talk about, feel free to use some of these questions to guide your conversation. If you are older and looking for better ways to fill your time, we invite you to pick out a few questions each day to answer with pen and paper.
When all of this is over, collect your answers, wrap them up, and give them to your child(ren) or grandchild(ren) on a special occasion. What an incredible gif! I personally have a book with various questions in it that I gave to my father several years ago. While he grumbled about it at the time, he did answer a number of the questions. Now after his death, it is truly a keepsake. There are probably many other ways to use these questions. Please feel free to use them as you see fit. God bless your good conversations and ongoing relationships! If you enjoy these questions and would like more but are unable to access our church Facebook page or website, please call the church office and we will send out paper copies. Thanks much!
Yours in Christ,
Pastor Randy
